April 14, 1944 ~ February 10, 2018
Our kind and gentle giant husband, father and grandfather passed away in the early morning of Saturday, February 10, 2018. Richard was born April 14, 1944, and graduated from Ogden High School. The son of an electrician and a school teacher, Richard learned the wisdom of hard work from a young age.
Richard met and married his sweetheart, Julie and they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple, July 26, 1966. Soon after marriage, Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army as a combat infantryman where he served honorably in the Vietnam War. He sustained a near-mortal wound before returning stateside, where he continued to serve in Washington State.
Richard took a fledgling electrical supply and lighting company under his wings and made them into the robust businesses they are today, Whitehead Electric and Century Lighting. Richard was admired and loved by many in the industry. Employees and customers were his number one priority.
Richard was a faithful member of the LDS community and served in many capacities. Richard loved to serve and could always be found in the middle of a service project.
After the passing of his sweet wife, Julie, Richard married Marva on May 11, 2007, and was sealed in the Bountiful LDS Temple. Marva was a great companion who could always put up with his shenanigans and was always up for a good adventure.
Richard believed in the divine inspiration of the Constitution and was always doing his part as a patriot to preserve individual rights and liberties, especially the 2nd Amendment. Richard loved his family, guns, cats and horses.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Julie; daughter, Cheryl Ward; parents, Edgar and Ruth; and three sisters. Richard is survived by his wife, Marva; his children: Camille Kearl (Lorne), Trina Whitehead, Brandon Whitehead (Becki); and son-in-law, Brett Ward. Richard is also survived by his amazing 10 grandchildren, with one of them serving in the Leeds England Mission. "Big Aut" (Grandpa) we hope to make you proud and remember the lessons we have been taught."
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Spring Canyon Ward, 6350 Combe Road. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and at the church prior to the service on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
