SUNSET — An elderly woman was found dead in a home that caught fire Friday night.

The two-alarm fire was reported at 8:17 p.m. near 75 West and 2300 North in Sunset, according to North Davis Fire District Chief Mark Becraft.

Becraft said heavy smoke and flames were coming through the windows when firefighters from six agencies arrived at 8:21 p.m.

The fire was quickly extinguished, Becraft said. Crews then entered the home and discovered the woman’s body in a bedroom at the front of the house.

Becraft said the woman, who has not yet been named, was renting the house and lived alone. No one was else was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Becraft said it originated in the bedroom where the woman was found.

Multiple crews from North Davis, Layton, Clinton, Roy and Riverdale responded to the scene.

The fire caused an estimated $200,000 worth of damage.
